STAR WARS™: The
History Channel This documentary essentially revolves around drawing parallels between mythology, religion and Star wars. It centers pm the development of the main character Luke Skywalker in comparison with other rising legends as King Arthur and Hercules. Skywalker goes through a hero journey cycle and crosses many barriers to achieve the ultimate victory for good. The documentary shows Skywalker as an innocent simpleton with the same insecurities as everyone else. The legacy then states that the next hurdle Skywalker must cross over is to learn more. The cantina scene shows that Skywalker is in an intergalactic environment that is completely unlike his prior condition. He is thrown into a universe where there are strange beings and monsters. Just like the tales of old, the legacy shows that the hero has mentors in Obi-wan and Yoda. Skywalker and the heroes in myths alike must at some point lose their mentors in order to realized what they have truly learned. There is a phase in the documentary that explains the role of women in the series, specifically Padme and Leia that possess strong backbones and powerful assertive personalities. This relates well to the Greek tragedies of the strong matrons. Overall, Star Wars: The Legacy Reveled definitely sheds some interesting light on the famous series. It introduces the roots of its plots and main characters as well as explaining the underlying motives driving the characters.
